How to PAINT a REFLECTION🦩
Просмотров 817Месяц назад
This video will share some of my tips and tricks for painting a reflection that is 'in focus'. The Flamingo was standing in almost perfectly calm water, and its reflection was very detailed, and needed to successfully look like it 'belonged' to the bird I painted above the water. Here's how I achieved that.🦩 If you would like to learn more about painting birds, here's a great video to watch nex...

Really enjoyed that one Paul, you made it look so simple again. Will definitely try this one, and thank you for your time.
Thank you very much Colin, keep those brushes wet. 😊
I love this video. I am new to watercolor and realize this is over my head, but man it is inspirational.
Thank you David, still give it a go though, you may surprise yourself. Your painting doesn't have to look the same as mine here, just play with the colours and textures and see what you end up with. Plus, any throw away attempts can be cut up into bookmarks or use the backs for testing strips. Paul 😉
Hi Paul great tutorial. I am wondering, after completing a painting, mostly using Cotman pans..in my pallet, the paint just beads up into tiny droplets. But in your pallet you have good thick paint in it. My pallet is plastic but looks similar to yours. Is yours ceramic? Or am I doing something wrong?
Hi Micky, yes I do use a ceramic palette and have done for many years. This was for the same reason as your issue, where paint beads up inside the mixing wells. As you can see this didn't happen with ceramic quite as much. They are more expensive but worth every penny. You can of course use a ceramic plate, I've bought some from charity shops in the past. Paul 🎨
Mickey, I've just ordered a ceramic pallets from Temu. Very cheap!
Just checked my order. I paid $7.98 AUD. (About 4 quid I think?)
@@tassie2348 A good price Tassie. 👍
What I meant by that circle is like in a macaw, feathers around the neck.. Each one has a lighter shade around each feather, that helps distinguish one feather from another.... So a better technique is to apply a draker glaze over the lighter color leaving a vein to show? Or to sort of do this small circling technique you mentioned to get a fuzzy lighter colored vein?
I see what you mean now. Yes, that would work well with glazing, as long as you make sure your colours are transparent and not semi-transparent or opaque. That way any details underneath will still show through, you have to use a light touch though with this. 😊
I loved how you connected, explaining these techniques to real applications... Like branch drawing... Like. Masking fluid example... Otherwise i normally skip such videos... You gave me a connect... Nice... Probably that circling can be used to color that light colored vein which ia left in feathers as a circle around? But for all, my question is... Does Joe know about this video? 😁😁😁
Thank you very much, I'm nor sure what you mean about the circle other than allowing the lighter side to show, gradually blending the colour to give a rounded feel. Thank you for taking the time to watch. Paul 🎨
Thank you Paul !
My pleasure!
Por favor habilitar subtitulos en español. Please spanish subtitle. Gracias ❤
Es posible que puedas verlo en español, aunque no estoy seguro. Prueba el ícono de engranaje en la parte inferior derecha de mi video, con los dedos cruzados, hay una opción para ti. 🤔
Amazing step by step…really brought home the ‘slow down’ aspect of watercolour …I definitely end up with a mess …too dark because I don’t take my time!
Thanks so much Leslie😊
Amazing!! Do you have a step by step video for this bird?
There certainly is a step-by-step video lesson for this lovely bird on my Patreon channel. Don't forget if you join as a free member even though you don't gain access to this tutorial, there are others to try out for free as well, so really, try before you buy sort of thing. I hope this helps, here's the freebie section for you. www.patreon.com/collection/570507 Paul 🎨
So beautiful, thanks for sharing your skills. I am wondering how your white feathers show up on the dark paint ? Is it gouache white which shows up better?
Hi, I do tend to use opaque white i.e watercolour white, or as you say you can use white gouache as well. As long as it's opaque and creamy, it should work well. Here's a link for you where I've put together a playlist for using white paint, I hope it helps. Paul 🎨 bit.ly/3WUW9YM
Thank you Paul I always feel "guilty" if I use white gouache in a watercolour painting!Your brush has a super point,I have it hard to keep a brush with such a good point .Thanks, from New Zealand,Sheila
@@daveandsheilawilson9085 There are no rules as such Sheila, you paint the way that feels right for you, that's the key. 😉
😁loved it... The signing... One of my favorite songs... Sir wanted to know how do you record your videos?
Hi, thank you very much. LOL. I record my videos using a DSLR camera. I do have a video on here regarding my art studio setup, where I chat about the camera I use. Hope it helps, Paul 🎨 ruclips.net/video/fwvq22anRQc/видео.html
PAUL...WOULDNT PA INTING ON SMOOTHER PAPER BE EASIER?
A good question Pauline. I've always preferred a cold pressed paper, so with a little bit of texture. I feel it holds the washes better and gives it that extra bit of texture for feathers, wood, stone and so on. Paul 🎨
I love your kind sense of humour! Thank you for this excellent tutorial! Greetings from Mexiko!
Thank you very much Irene! Have fun with those brushes across the water. 😀
Sorry, my comment was meant for the masking-fluid-tutorial. I don't know how it ended up here!😅🤣But I am certainly going to watch more of your videos!
